ORGANIC STRAND HACK

"Doc, I understand that for me, at my age, being hormonally challenged, that The Protable Menu will bottom-out my insulin and top-out my glucagon, and that would switch me from a constant fat-storing state into a fat burning state. What food group is the most important when I'm playing the insulin-glucagon seesaw game?"

I promise you that you can be slender no matter your age or hormonal status by eating The Protable Menu.

When I was young, my father would buy me plastic model plane kits. Dad was a pilot in the Korean war, so that explains why he consistently bought me plane kits instead of car kits. When I completed one of these kits, I would put them on my dresser. The planes sat up there on display, and I would be filled with pride. If you don't have any knowledge of plastic model kits, they were like puzzles you had to glue together. There would be dozens of pieces that went into one plane.

When it comes to building your ideal body, just like when I was building model planes, the key is to have all the right parts. Can you imagine what my plane would look like if it was missing a part?

One of the primary barriers to us achieving our ideal body, especially when we are in our "Third Acts" of life, is that we do not eat enough protein.

In my experience, forty-two years worth of practicing health optimization, I have found that we become frustrated and depressed when we cannot achieve our "happy" weight.


When we become overweight or over-waisted as we age, we lose our self-confidence and begin to isolate ourselves.

If you came and asked me to give you one piece of advice about what foods you should eat while in your "Third Act" of life to lose weight and feel great, after helping thousands of women and men become happier with their bodies and health, without a doubt, I would say eat more protein.

Here are my rules for protein:

  • Eat Clean Animal Proteins (wild-caught, grass-fed, pasture-raised, organic)

  • Eat a palm-sized piece of protein with each meal. (whenever you are hungry)

  • Animal Protein is the only food group that stimulates the release of glucagon.

  • Eat at least 90 grams of protein every day.

  • If you can't get 90 grams of protein daily, it would be a good idea to supplement with Branch Chain Amino Acids.

  • If you must snack, snack on protein

EAT CLEAN ANIMAL PROTEINS Conventional aminal proteins, those raised in industrial settings where the animals are kept in areas where they can't move, where they are fed genetically modified corn, filled with hormones (estradiol) to make them fat, and filled with antibodies to keep their infections from festering are not clean proteins.

"Make it a practice to eat grass-fed, pasture-raised, wild-caught, organic animal proteins whenever possible."

I want to be transparent, at the beginning of the program, you will be able to lose weight with conventional industrialized animal proteins, but as you become healthier and cleaner, your body will respond adversely to these proteins that are filled with hormones and antibiotics, and a multitude of other medicines and toxins. Once you are clean, when these toxic proteins enter your body, they will alarm your immune system causing an inflammatory response. Acute inflammation will cause bloating and illness.

EAT PALM-SIZED SERVINGS OF ANIMAL PROTEINS If you overeat protein in one setting, you risk spiking your blood sugar. Certain amino acids, when eaten in excess, can turn into sugar. If this happens, your blood sugar will spike, and insulin will be released. Once you are in the "Third Act" of your life the only menu that works, if you are hormonally challenged, is a menu that does not spike blood sugar. Remember, to lose fat, especially belly fat, you must bottom out insulin and top out glucagon.

PROTEIN AND GLUCAGON Animal proteins are the only food group shown to increase glucagon. Recall that when your insulin spikes, you are placed in a fat-storing state. When glucagon spikes, you are placed in a fat-releasing state. The only way we have found to switch you from a fat-storing state to a fat-burning state is to bottom out insulin and top out glucagon by eating animal proteins.

PROTEIN AND MUSCLES Protein makes muscle. Proteins are the building blocks to every part of your body but as you enter your "Third Act" of life, your muscle becomes crucial to maintaining a healthy life.

  • The more muscle you have the higher your metabolism will be.

  • The more muscle you have the stronger you will be.

  • The less muscle you have the frailer you will be.

Frailty and old age go together. To be young as you age, you must maintain strength or even gain more strength. Research has found that we need NINETY grams of protein per day after the age of fifty to maintain muscle. Don't let this confuse you. The average chicken breast weighs 174 grams. But...there is only about 40 grams of protein in that chicken breast.

THE PROTEIN SUPPLEMENT I have found that as women age, their appetite decreases. The loss of muscle has a lot to do with this because increased muscle increases metabolism and the decrease of muscle decreases metabolism. If you find it difficult to eat enough animal protein, no need to be alarmed.

There are nine essential amino acids. Remember, proteins are the building blocks of your muscles but amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Essential means that you must consume (eat) these amino acids because your body cannot make them.


Science has found that of these nine there are three that are a must to make muscle. These amino acids are called branch chained amino acids or BCAAs for short.


If you cannot eat enough animal protein to get the required 90 grams of protein then you can supplement with BCAAs. Below is an Amazon link to the BCAA supplement we take.

SNACKING Americans love to snack. I believe snacking is why so many Americans are overweight. Most snacks are blood sugar spikers. If you are going to snack, snack on protein. Animal proteins eaten in moderate quantities will not spike your blood sugar.

If I am traveling, I make sure to take grass-fed beef sticks with me. Here is an Amazon link to my favorite beef sticks.

"From my experience, plant proteins do not work very well and quinoa has the most BCAAs but you would have to eat several servings of quinoa to obtain the required amount of BCAAs."

if you eat three meals a day, a palm-sized serving of protein will generally supply you with 30 grams of protein. Thirty grams is the magic number because that is the amount it will take to supply you with the right amount of lutein, the BCAA that makes muscle.
