The Estrogenization of our nation

THE HOPE COURSE

Recall during Phase One of The HOPE Protocol, we are eliminating Estrogen Dominance, the first condition caused by the “pauses,” menopause, and andropause.

The best way to tame estrogen dominance is to lose any excess fat you have, especially belly fat because our fat has enzymes that convert progesterone and testosterone into estradiol.

Estrogen dominance is caused by the chasm that occurs between estradiol and progesterone in women and estradiol and testosterone in men.

“Estrogen Dominance should be called progesterone deficiency in women and testosterone deficiency in men.”

Below are the next four tools we use to tame Estrogen Dominance and its plethora of symptoms: weight gain, weight loss resistance, sleeping disorders, hormonal-induced anxiety and depression, loss of interest in being intimate, and loss of motivation to be social.

HORMONE OPTIMIZATION COURSE:

THE "BAD" PHYTOESTROGEN

  • WHAT IS A PHYTOESTROGEN

  • THE BAD PHYTOESTROGEN: SOY

  • AVOID SOY WHILE IN PHASE ONE OF HOPE

  • THE ESTROGENIZATION OF OUR NATION

  • BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES

  • SOY AND YOUR THYROID

  • SOY IS A LEGUME

"Many of you are eating yourself into estrogen dominance by literally eating estrogen."

WHAT IS A PHYTOESTROGEN?

Phytoestrogen defined.

"A plant-derived compound that connects to a cell's estrogen receptor and sends messages to the cell as if it was estrogen."

THE BAD PHYTOESTROGEN: SOY

Many plants have phytoestrogens, but soy contains the "bad" phytoestrogen, and while on Phase One of HOPE, avoid soy. It's not going to be easy.

I call it the "bad" phytoestrogen because the phytoestrogen within soy is much more potent and damaging than others. And we are constantly consuming soy without our knowledge.

"Soy is ubiquitous in today's food, so much so we are eating soy without even knowing it, and this is causing the feminization of our boys and early puberty in girls."

The government subsidizes soy; therefore, soy is overgrown. Since it is overgrown, food engineers have discovered new ways to use soy. Soy is used as a filler in nearly all processed foods, especially our meats. This is a travesty.

You might remember that a popular fast food chain got caught having no meat in their meat. It was soy!

Some unexpected sources of soybeans and soy products

  • Baked goods.

  • Canned broths and soups.

  • Canned tuna and meat.

  • Cereals.

  • Cookies.

  • Crackers.

  • High-protein energy bars and snacks.

  • Dairy products (e.g., ice cream, yogurt)

  • Etc.

It gets worse.

Monsanto patents nearly all of the soy used in the United States. That means it is genetically modified.

"Soy is the best/worst example of human-made food on the planet."

What irks me is that we are told that soy is a health food. I often hear from clients that their doctor told them to eat soy products to reduce their hot flashes and night sweats.

In many cases, consuming soy will do that, but in nearly all cases, it will also make you gain weight, lose sleep, and increase anxiety and depression.

"A genetically modified soybean is a soybean (Glycine max) that has had DNA introduced into it using genetic engineering techniques. In 1996, the first genetically modified soybean was introduced to the U.S. by Monsanto. In 2014, 90.7 million hectares of GM soybeans were planted worldwide; this (accounts for) 82% of the total soybeans cultivated." Wikipedia

AVOID ALL SOY WHILE ON PHASE ONE OF HOPE

  • Soybeans (edamame)

  • Soy nuts,

  • Tofu,

  • Soy Milk,

  • Soy Yogurt,

  • Tempeh,

  • Miso Paste,

  • Miso Soup,

  • Soy Protein Powder,

  • Soy Protein Bar,

  • Veggie (soy) Burgers,

  • Bacon Bits, yup, soy

“Did you know an infant on soy formula consumes a hormone load of 4 birth control pills daily? National Institute of Health

And we wonder why precocious puberty is reaching epidemic proportions.

THE ESTROGENIZATION OF OUR NATION

Soy and other estrogenic foods and cosmetic products are making us so estrogen-dominant that our children's hormones are so out of balance that boys are growing breasts and girls are having periods at younger and younger ages.

"With the estrogenization of our children, infertility is increasing at an alarming rate. Estrogens have an important role in influencing fertility and infertility..." National Institute of Health

Countries like Russia, China, and most of Europe have banned estrogenic products. This includes estrogenic food additives and products that use phytoestrogens, such as those used within the cosmetic industry.

Estrogenic products are banned in most other countries because they practice socialized medicine, and when their population becomes ill, it costs them money.

America has yet to ban any of these estrogenic products. NOT ONE!

When our population becomes ill, we make money. Well, one item has been banned for infants, a certain plastic, but not for adults.

Yes, it's always about the money.

BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES

If your doctor prescribed estrogen to combat hot flashes and night sweats and if she knew anything about hormones, she probably prescribed a bioidentical estrogen.

"Most doctors know very little, if anything, about how to balance or optimize hormones."

Bioidentical estrogen has the same molecular structure as the estrogen molecule found within your body.

The good news is that your doctor prescribed a bioidentical estrogen; she at least knew it was much safer to use a bioidentical estrogen instead of prescribing Premarin, which is extracted from horses.

“Many doctors are afraid to prescribe Premarin because of its carcinogenic tendencies.”

IT’S FROM A HORSE!

Bioidentical estrogen may help with night sweats and hot flashes, but the bad news is it makes estrogen dominance worse.

It's like the commercials for medications, where the side effects take more of the commercial's time than the actual benefits of the medication.

“Compounding pharmacies make bioidentical hormones in their back offices using phytoestrogens extracted from soy.”

Did you get that? The hormone therapy your doctor prescribed for you is made from phytoestrogens from soy.

(To be transparent, pharmacists have also been using phytoestrogens from wild yams.)

SOY AND YOUR THYROID

In Phase Two, that's where we work on optimizing the thyroid hormones; soy is still avoided because,

“Soy is goitrogenic!”

Soy suppresses thyroid function because it blocks iodine!

The primary thyroid hormone is T4, which is tyrosine with four iodine molecules attached to it.

Without proper iodine uptake, you will experience a drop in the production of T4 and a dramatic drop in energy.

We will dive deeper into soy and the thyroid in Phase Two.

SOY IS A LEGUME

“Soy is a legume, so it is also high in phytates.”

Phytates are enzyme inhibitors that block mineral absorption. Phytates are naturally high in legumes.

There is a trick to eating and cooking legumes. But stay away from all legumes during Phase One.

Okay, I'll tell you the secret so you tell others not on the program who are eating legumes/beans: soak them for 24 to 36 hours before cooking. But, when it comes to soy, soaking them doesn't work.

What is a legume?

Legumes are considered vegetables by the USDA. They should have their own classification because legumes are very pro-inflammatory.

Since legumes cause inflammation and digestive upset, avoid them until the weight-setting stage of the program.

Why am I picking on soy and not all legumes?

“It would take 10,000 cups of black beans to equal the phytoestrogens in 1 cup of soybeans.”

We will test legumes and soy during the weight-setting phase, but we will only test the fermented soy products. Fermented soy is a health food but not a weight loss or hormone-balancing food when estrogen-dominant.

“During the weight setting phase of the program, we will test soy. If your body is not sensitive to soy, we will bring back the fermented soy products."

Since soy is avoided during Phase One of HOPE, we will address fermented soy in Phase Two.

I am often asked, How can Asians consume so much soy and not be obese or have the hormone problems Americans have?"

Yes, Asians use soy in their diet daily. But their soy is primarily fermented.

“The Asian culture consumes about two teaspoons of fermented soy daily.”

For those who are going to go and google it, here is a short list of fermented soy:

  • miso,

  • tempeh,

  • natto,

  • tamari.

Please avoid all soy products in Phase One.
