"ACV does two very essential actions for us. It temporarily increases the acidity of our stomachs, and it helps flush our livers of the leftover ashes that occur when the liver burns a toxin."

ACV is made by taking apple juice and adding bacteria and yeast. This causes the sugar within the apples to ferment, making alcohol. Then the liquid is fermented again, converting the alcohol into vinegar through the use of acetic acid-forming bacteria.

Most major brands will heat-treat and filter the ACV. We do not want to use this type of ACV. We want to use raw ACV.


Many smaller boutique-like companies are making raw ACVs. Nearly everywhere is a raw organic brand called Braggs. There are also many local brands today that, if raw and organic, I encourage you to try.


You will know that the ACV is raw because since it is unfiltered, it will be cloudy. Raw ACV is not heat-treated or pasteurized, or filtered.


Raw ACV contains the mother floating within it. The mother is the live culture fermenting within the ACV. Boutique ACV is made by using airborne yeast, whereas the bigger commercial companies add the yeast.


In other words, commercial brands are more human-made, and the smaller boutique-like companies are more God-made. And if you know anything about The HOPE Protocol, the heart and soul of the program is to consume God-made products and avoid human-made products. That is why the second strand of HOPE is called Organic Sustenance.


Many of my colleagues advocate using a tablespoon of raw organic ACV thirty minutes before each meal. After using ACV for liver optimization on thousands of patients and clients, I have learned and prefer that they begin with a teaspoon in eight ounces of water ten minutes before a meal.


I have changed these liver gurus' protocols because I have found clients are more compliant when they consume the ACV ten minutes before a meal.

Another reason I prefer the ten-minute rule is that the acetic acid found in ACV is more likely to still be within your stomach at the time you eat your meal, increasing your stomach’s acidity. At thirty minutes, the acid is more likely to have been neutralized.


I have also changed most liver gurus' protocols to one teaspoon of ACV instead of one tablespoon because most clients find a tablespoon of ACV too distasteful, especially in the beginning.


Most of my clients have no problem with one teaspoon in eight ounces of neutral pH water. It may still be distasteful, but doable at this concentration.

When we first started detoxing livers forty-three years ago, we used to use a liver detox supplement. It had multiple ingredients within it.


I do not like multiple-ingredient supplements. If you have a sensitivity to one of the ingredients, the supplement becomes harmful instead of beneficial.

If you are continuously eating food that you are sensitive to, you will be chronically inflamed. Recall chronic inflammation is the primary source cause of

  • Most cancers, if not all.

  • Diabetes

  • Heart Disease

  • Strokes

  • Alzheimer’s

I prefer testing one ingredient (supplement) at a time. Yes, this may mean you may need to take three of four supplements instead of one multi-ingredient supplement, but it will be much more effective and safer this way.


When I began developing my first liver detoxification protocol four decades ago, I used the stronger multi-ingredient liver detoxifier with few adverse side effects. My patient’s livers were much healthier back then.


As time went by, my patients started having adverse side effects from the multi-ingredient liver detoxifier. Their livers were too dysfunctional to handle such a strong detoxifier.


The clients thought the protocol was the cause of their side effects of being nauseated and fatigued, and they would quit the protocol.


I switched from using the strong liver detoxifier at the beginning of the program to the end of the liver program. Even though I am not a fan of multi-ingredient supplements, I am a proponent once each of the individual ingredients has been tested without side effects.

And remember to talk to your healthcare provider before beginning any supplement.


As we age, our stomach acidity decreases. The Meso-menu is a high-protein menu. ACV will temporarily increase your stomach’s acidity, helping you digest the protein.


If the protein you consume is not digested properly, it will pass into your gut and ferment. The undigested protein will cause a shift within your microbiome, causing digestive upset.


Thousands of different species of bacteria can reside within your gut. These species break down your food. The species population changes according to the menu you eat on a regular basis.


"There are more bacteria in your gut than you have cells in your body. Each species can have billions of bacteria belonging to that particular species."

Your microbiome is designed to break down fast food if you have been eating fast food.

If you switch to the Meso-Menu, the species of bacteria in your gut will have to change to accommodate your new menu. This may happen instantly, or it may take time. If your microbiome doesn't adjust quickly, you may experience digestive upset like constipation.

ACV will increase your stomach acidity, helping break down your proteins and making it easier for the bacteria to break them down further.

After using ACV for a week, and if you have had no adverse side effects and don’t mind the taste of ACV, you may increase to two teaspoons in eight ounces of water. After two weeks, you may titrate to three teaspoons (a tablespoon).


If you are like my wife and can't handle the taste of liquid ACV, tablets and gummies can be purchased and used instead.


I am not a fan of these tablets or gummies because they have a multitude of other ingredients. But if you cannot swallow ACV, they are an option, an inferior one, but still an option. Capsules and gummies may not help with stomach acidity, but they will help with liver detoxification.
