How To Motivate Yourself To The Finish Line

I call the system I have developed to optimize our hormones and weight in our "Third Acts" of life, The HOPE Protocol. I should have called it The HOPE Rope because it has four strands that need to be intertwined. The HOPE Rope is what we will use to pull ourselves out of The Hormone Abyss of menopause and andropause.

In today's lesson, we are in The Enlightenment Strand, where I will teach you how to optimize your life by optimizing your mind.


ENLIGHTENMENT STRAND: ACHIEVING THE FOURTH TOOL

"Doc, is there a tool I can use to assure that I acheive my weight and health goals?"

I am asked this question often. It has a four-part answer. I have previously written about the first three tools in previous courses and I will repeat them below.


I call the fourth tool FAILURE MOTIVATION. This is the tool we use to get you to the finish line once you feel defeated.


FAILURE MOTIVATION


I wake up early every morning, and I read, write, and promote. I woke at 2:00 AM this morning. Don't worry; I will go back to sleep and wake up with my wife. I sleep seven hours every night. I like to rise in the wee hours because it's quiet, and there are rarely any interruptions.


I want to be transparent, I usually wake around 4:00 AM, but my dog woke me up this morning. He stole my covers, and I got too cold. Don't you love the temperature change of Autumn?


Anyways, I wake, and the first action I take is to sit and breathe. I will teach you my breathing tool in the next e-course.


In this course, I will jump ahead, but once you learn the other tools, you will see how this tool needed to be known now.


After you have read today's course, I want you to sit, close your eyes, and imagine that you are sitting in a lotus pose in the middle of a railroad track. Yes, if you want, you can float. I want you to look as far as you can down the railroad tracks to where the two rails come together. I want you to imagine the "YOU" that you desire to be sitting there looking back at you. Answer these questions to flesh out the future "YOU."

  • How does the future "YOU" feel emotionally?

  • How does the future "YOU" look body-wise?

  • What health conditions have the future "YOU" eliminated?

  • How happy is the future "YOU?"

Wrap up all your answers, and that's the future "YOU" sitting on the horizon looking back at you.


The distance between where you are today and where you want to go is what I call The Gap.


Where you are currently sitting has no momentum. You're not moving toward the "YOU" that you desire. You're stagnant. To get the engine started and your train moving toward your destination, you need fuel.

That fuel that will traverse the gap from where you are to where you want to go is called purpose.

PURPOSES:

  • I want to live a high-quality long life so I can dance at my grandchildren's weddings (That's mine)

  • Or your purpose can be that you want to fit easily and look great in the size six dress you're going to purchase for your daughter's wedding.

  • Or your purpose is that you want to manage your diabetes and not have to take medication,

  • etc.

Your purpose is the fuel that causes momentum to get you from where you are to where you want to go.

MAC HACK: KNOW YOUR PURPOSE, THE WHY YOU WANT TO BE THE FUTURE "YOU."


We will get back to your PURPOSE in later courses because you need to know it well. I needed to introduce you to purpose now, so you better understand today's lesson.

Before I go on to today's hack, let me take the liberty of changing the metaphor.


Now, I want you to visualize that you are on a horse. The horse is your purpose. You want to get from 210 pounds to 150 pounds. You are riding your horse from the 210-pound start toward the 150-pound destination. You start quickly and lose ten pounds in the first week. I can hear you holler yippee-ki-yay! Do you have a hat in one of your hands and whipping it in the sky?


Then the next week, you lose another five pounds. Yippee!


Then you go out with friends the next week and have lasagna, caesar salad, garlic bread, and crème brûlée. You gain five pounds in one meal. Yup, it happens all the time.


You just fell off the horse, and instead of getting back on your horse, you give up and start walking back to the stables, and your mind is filled with "Sinkin Thinkin."

  • "I knew I couldn't do this."

  • "I am such a loser."

  • "Why did I think I could make something of myself?"

  • "That guy doesn't know what he's talking about."

  • "Mom told me not even to try."

Sinking Thinking is the thinking that sinks your purpose.


This is where the fourth 'Hey Doc, how do I make success a sure thing' tool comes into play.


We have found, after forty-two years of practice experience and treating over ten thousand patients and clients, that when you fall off the horse, you need failure motivation to get back on the horse.


We have found the best way to get back on the horse is to have someone pick you up off the ground, dust you off, lift you back onto the horse, and slap the horse's buttock to get it galloping again.


My father was my motivator. He did that for me over and over.


We are all sinners. We will all fall off the horse. And once we do, we use it as an excuse to continue with bad behavior.


You'll say, oh, well I had one chip, or one glass of wine, or one bite of the cheesecake and justify that since you have already blown it, what the heck, might as well go for it and continue with your sabotaging behavior. Sometimes this behavior will continue for days, weeks, and even for the rest of your life.


We know that this has happened because our clients will ghost us, they will disappear and cut off communication between us.


In my experience, there is only one way I have learned to get them back on the horse. I have to persistently pursue them and remind them of their purpose, then I will need to explain how we can fix their three-day binger in one day. Once I prove to them that they can get back to galloping quickly, they will grab hold of the reins and continue galloping toward their future "YOU.".


In the 1980s, I was groomed by a seminar company to be a motivational speaker. I have spoken to audiences of thousands. I wasn't that good but I got to hang out with the best in the self-development business.


I learned from those years of touring from city to city and even other countries with these New York Times Best Sellers that the key to success is flipping our thoughts from what I call sinking thinking to syncing thinking.

"Sinking Thinking" sabotages your journey toward your goals. "Syncing Thinking" aligns your thoughts with your journey toward your goals.

SUMMARY OF THE FIRST SECTION OF THE ENLIGHTENMENT STRAND


Here are the four tools you will need to cross the gap from where you are today to where you want to go.

Remember once you are at that age, it's all about your hormones.

You are nothing more than a reflection of your hormones.
