Electronic Waste (E-Scrap) E-Scrap can be recycled, but not in your curbside recycling cart or bin. Most electronics contain valuable metals that can be recovered. Items that can be recycled include desktops, towers, laptops, monitors, keyboards and peripherals, printers, modems, tablets, e-readers, telecom devices, networking equipment, cables, cell phones, ear buds and video game systems.

Electronic recycling has been a major issue for locals since the York County Solid Waste Authority suspended its program until further notice just before Christmas. The move came after the vendor it had lined up to provide the service told the authority it couldn't provide the service because it is cost prohibitive.

Computer and electronics recycling is an environmentally friendly, common sense alternative to disposal. With recycling, waste is properly managed through reuse or re-manufacturing, thereby using less energy and fewer raw materials than making new products.

Best Buy stores accept most electronics for recycling at their customer service counters, and every U.S. Best Buy store has a kiosk where you can drop off rechargeable batteries, wires, cords, cables and plastic bags. See the state-specific recycling information section on the Electronics and Appliances Recycling page to view program details for your area.
